Children.org - Saving our Poverty Stricken Children
Kismet
Wow, talk about Kismet! My dear friend Billybuc has reached out to the Hub Pages community to help whomever we can via our voices. H.O.W. stands for Humanity One World. In reading these words, I now see my original slant doesn’t quite fit. However, we are but a small speck in the mass we call Earth, so I shan’t be selfish.
Anyway, back to Kismet; this little story I’m going to relay puts goose bumps all over my body. Not thirty minutes ago, my doorbell rang. I opened the door to find a pleasant couple making a plea on behalf of the poverty stricken children of the world. As they were explaining the program of sponsoring a child through www.children.org, I had to stop them before the pitch ended and make them aware of my upside down debt to income ratio. As I was speaking, I told them I can’t help financially, but I can spread the word through H.O.W. and include their message. They seemed to be tickled by this and I then knew my destiny with Bill’s plea. Once again, I am compelled to stop what I’m doing and write this important message. (Bill you have already reached all the way across the continent! I hear your voice loud and clear!)
It is very clear to me that God wants me to speak on behalf of the children worldwide and that’s what I intend to do with this hub.
There is Hope if You're Willing to Help
Children International has been reaching out to children and their families for over seventy five years. Their efforts go beyond seeking sponsorship. You donations can be specific to a child or can be used globally. Children International does more than feed and clothe those who are sponsored. They dig and build wells to provide water. They teach the children how to grow and nurture food crops in order to nurture themselves. They provide schooling, even scholarships in order to promote success through education. Eighty three percent of donations received goes towards the programs they have in place to help the deprived children of the world, America included, a better life. That’s a percentage I am more than comfortable supporting!
Sponsored children, in over eleven countries, receive regular health and dental care, clothing; they learn hygiene, nutrition and even skills so they can become self-sufficient. Contributions help rebuild communities, offering a better place to live. The families homes are repaired, clean water provided, bedding, dishes; whatever is needed to improve the basic needs of life.
The poverty level world-wide is astounding. As of 2005, over half the world lives on $2.50 per day. Imagine what those statistics are today! 80% lived on $10 per day in 2005. That includes food, housing, clothing, education, healthcare; everything we take for granted. As of 2011, in America alone, 42.6 million people live in poverty. Of that, 16.1 million are children under the age of 18. We’re talking millions folks! That is not only astonishing, but shameful.

Love Our Children of the World
Most of us reading this have the luxury of a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, a pet or three to feed and a computer by which to communicate. Not all the world is so fortunate. Many of our poverty-stricken children became so through unfortunate circumstances, while others had no choice. They were born into bad situations. No child deserves to come into this life with no choices. Every child needs the opportunity to have dreams and see them as plausible dreams – not pipe dreams! Where will tomorrow’s world be without today’s children?
God has deemed me His messenger today. Won’t you please hear our word and do what you can for our children?
